All proceeds from the sale of products showing in this store at Zazzle.com are privately donated to the Patronato San Xavier (non-sectarian, non-profit corporation) concerned with the restoration, maintenance and preservation of Mission San Xavier del Bac near Tucson, Arizona."
The architecture of San Xavier includes Moorish and Byzantine elements
and is derivative of the Renaissance of Mexico. Its brick walls are six
feet thick in some places and coated with a limestone-based plaster with
a formula that includes the juice from the prickly pear cactus. A jewel
in the desert! The church and school continue to serve descendants of
the Tohono O'odham Nation who have protected the Mission for hundreds of
years. The image of the church seems to transcend one’s race,
religion, gender, ethnic background, or economic standing.
Restoration experts from Europe have worked on the building and trained
local artisans in the techniques of restoration to continue the work.
